Estimator for Number of Sources Using Minimum Description Length Criterion for Blind Sparse Source Mixtures

چکیده
In this paper I present a Minimum Description Length Estimator for number of sources in an anechoic mixture of sparse signals. The criterion is roughly equal to the sum of negative normalized maximum log-likelihood and the logarithm of number of sources. Numerical evidence supports this approach and compares favorabily to both the Akaike (AIC) and Bayesian (BIC) Information Criteria. 1 Signal and Mixing Models Consider the following model in time domain:

Robust Estimation of the Number of Sources via the Minimum Description Length Estimator
Estimating the number of sources impinging on an array of sensors is a well known and well investigated problem. A common approach for solving this problem is to use an information theoretic criterion, such as the Minimum Description Length (MDL) or the Akaike Information Criterion (AIC). The MDL estimator is known to be a consistent estimator, robust against deviations from the Gaussian assump...

We consider the underdetermined blind source separation problem with linear instantaneous and convolutive mixtures when the input signals are sparse, or have been rendered sparse. In the underdetermined case the problem requires solving three subproblems: detecting the number of sources, estimating the mixing matrix, and finding an adequate inversion strategy to obtain the sources. This paper s...

متن کاملOn blind source separation using mutual information criterion
We address the problem of blind separation of instantaneous and convolutive mixtures of independent signals. We formulate this problem as an optimization problem using the mutual information criterion. In the case of instantaneous mixtures, we solve the resulting optimization problem with an extended Newton’s method on the Stiefel manifold. This approach works for general independent signals an...
